It’s not a typical night that I’m holding my arm up, imploring a near stranger to take a whiff of my armpit. But so it was the Tuesday night that I met Monica Mayer At the Holistic Chamber of Commerce. “You mean, the Grateful Naturals deodorant is your product? I’m wearing it right now!” (Circle back to the beginning armpit scene). I’m a big fan of healthy product. And good natural deodorants can be hard to come by. For those of us on the healthy armpit journey, it can be challenging to find a) a product without aluminum b) a product that works. I was already impressed with the lavender natural deodorant I had been using, and Monica gave me some lemongrass and vanilla deodorant to try. I was also game to give her other products – lotion and a lip balm - a try as well. Monica was sweet enough to even throw in a tube of Pure Confidence, a natural deodorant for men, so my boyfriend could try it, as well. How Monica got her start as the deodorant maven…Monica started creating holistic product when she was pregnant with her son. She reports, “When I got pregnant my deodorant stopped working! I started doing research on pregnancy and how products affect your body. I wanted to breast feed so I was conscious of the deodorant I was using. Since I like to cook, I experimented with recipes. My friends loved it. It was a hit!” From there, people started asking her for other things, “requesting other natural products that are alternatives to the toxic counterparts sitting on shelves.” Who Buys Natural Products?“We get a lot of our business from health conscious moms and young adults – people that are more aware of the ramifications of traditional deodorants. I want to reach out to more teens. I have a product that I’m working on right now that’s geared specifically for children. There are moms that are reporting that kids as young as 7 now have body order. We use the same adult formula but we’ve made the scents more kid friendly.” Why Grateful Naturals doesn’t (make you) Stink!
Monica urges consumers to check toxicity levels of their products through the EWG. Most products have aluminum and parabens in them. “99% of breast cancer patients have parabens in their systems,” she tells us. Deodorant Results: The Sniff TestI had already been using the lavender natural deodorant for several months with great results. For the past few weeks I have only wonderful things to say about the other two scents, particularly the lemongrass. As this product is NOT an antiperspirant, I still sweat, which I believe is a good thing. My boyfriend reports that the natural deodorant for men, Pure Confidence, is working nicely. Yet he also notes that those with underarm hair may experience difficulty during application. This can be rectified by rubbing the remaining product directly into the skin. Lotion The lotion is non-greasy. I’m using it nearly every day and I’m liking it. Lip Balm It works well, and I can’t wait to try the tinted lip balm! I once read on the Internet that coconut oils works just by itself as a deodorant. For the record, it does not. I tried it! But when you do a product that is coconut oil (antibacterial) plus baking soda (absorbent) plus the other ingredients, it works just fine! 😊

I recently started searching for a good natural deodorant after finding out my estrogen levels were sky high and the Dr says it's largely due to environmental exposure. So... still trying to get used to sweating more. And I'm not convinced I don't smell a little funky. In other words, still searching...
